
Track and Field Treks to Gladstein Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams will trek north for the weekend for the two-day Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
Louisville begins the event Friday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. and continues action on Saturday at 11:25 a.m. in the Gladstein Fieldhouse on the campus of Indiana University. Live results will be available on .
Louisville's first event in which it will compete is the women's shot put at 4 p.m., headlined by Khadija Abdullah and Amashi Kendall. Abdullah currently ranks No. 4 in the country in the event, while Kendall is 17th nationally. An hour later, the Cardinals will send five, including 28th-ranked Sam Bombaugh, to participate in the men's weight throw.
The track events on Friday begin at 6:15 p.m. for Louisville, with the 60m semifinals, followed by the 60m hurdles semifinals at 6:40 p.m. Calvin Arsenault placed fifth in the 60m hurdles semifinals last year and advanced to the finals of the event.
Competition on Saturday begins at 11:25 a.m. with the 200m finals, followed by the 60m hurdles and 60m finals.
Louisville's throwers start at noon, with the weight throw, and the men's squad is scheduled to compete in the shot put at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals competed last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, capturing four event titles and five runner-up finishes.
Michelle Kinsella, formerly Michelle Theophille, earned her second win of the season in the high jump after clearing 18.1m/5-11.25. Abdullah also scored a field event victory, as she won the shot put title. On the track, Arsenault claimed the 60m hurdles preliminary title and reigning BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Edwin Kibichiy, won the 3,000m crown. Kibichiy's first-place time of 8:17.54 ranks first in the conference, No. 17 nationally and is the best mark among freshmen at that distance.
Collectively, the Cardinals boast 15 top-50 national marks.
