With the 67-55 win over Michigan State in the first round, Louisville improves to 8-7 all-time in first round action. Head coach Jeff Walz now has a 4-0 record in the first round.

After going 7-of-17 from the foul line in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament, Louisville bounced back with a 15-for-19 performance against the Spartans.
Shoni Schimmel dished out six assists in the game, giving her 137 for the season. For her career, she has collected 309. She is just the second sophomore in school history to dish out over 300 assists her first two seasons. The all-time assist leader Sara Nord was the first sophomore to reach that mark.
Sheronne Vails swatted two shots in the game for 33 this season. Through her two-year career, he has registered 81 blocks, she currently ranks 11th on the career list. Sara Hammond led the team on the boards with nine grabbed, tying the second most this season. She previously totaled nine against UT-Martin (12/28) this season and grabbed a season-best 13 boards against Missouri State (11/13).
Louisville's two turnovers at the half, was a season-low. The 12 total turnovers ranks as the third fewest this season. The Cards lowest total was nine against Villanova and Pittsburgh during the regular season. The next lowest total was 11 against Xavier and Syracuse.
Burke's 14 points were a NCAA Tournament career-high for the senior. Burke' s previous career-high was 11 points against Liberty in 2009, her tournament debut.
Schimmel's six assists were a NCAA Tournament career-high for the sophomore. She had dished out three in each of her previous tournament games.
Asia Taylor tied her NCAA Tournament career-high with 10 points against Michigan State. Taylor also scored 10 points in the 2011 Sweet 16 against Gonzaga.
Four Cardinals scored double figures, led by senior Becky Burke with 14 points. Asia Taylor finished with 10 points while freshmen Shawnta' Dyer and Bria Smith scored double figures in their NCAA Tournament debuts.
The win over Michigan State is Louisville's fifth straight in the first round of the NCAA Tournament win since 2007.
Today's game was the second meeting between Michigan State and Louisville and the first since Nov. 25, 1990. The series is now evened at 1-1.
