Louisville, Ky. - The No. 7-seeded Cardinals will face 10th-seed Michigan State Spartans (20-11, 11-5 Big Ten) in the first round of NCAA Tournament in the Raleigh Region on Saturday, March 17 at approximately 1:45 p.m. ET in a game televised on ESPN2. The games will be played at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.
Louisville (22-9, 10-6 in the BIG EAST Conference) is making its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth appearance in the last seven years. U of L enters the tournament having won six of its last nine games, falling 63-53 to No. 7 Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The Cardinals have reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in three of the past four seasons. U of L made its first NCAA Final Four appearance in 2009, falling to UConn 76-54 in the title game.
Sophomore point guard Shoni Schimmel leads the team in scoring and assists with 14.3 points and assists with 4.5 per game. While senior guard Becky Burke ranks second on the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game. Freshman forward Shawnta' Dyer leads the team on the boards with 5.1 rebounds per game.
