Louisville won its second BIG EAST Championship. The Cardinals previously won the title in 2009.

The championship is Louisville's third postseason title that was won in Madison Square Garden. The Cardinals won the 1956 NIT and the 2009 BIG EAST title at the World's Most Famous Arena.

This is the second time in program history the Cardinals have won four games in four days. The last time it happened was March 10-13 in 1948, when Louisville won the NAIB Tournament title. The Cardinals defeated Emporia, 82-66, on March 10, Beloit, 85-76, on March 11, Xavier, 56-49, on March 12, and Indiana State, 82-70, on March 13, for the title.

Louisville is 28-12 in the postseason (conference, NCAA, NIT tournaments) since 2005.

Tonight's game was the second conference championship final between the schools. Louisville was a 41-31 winner against Cincinnati in the 1981 Metro Conference tournament final.

Louisville held Cincinnati to 14 points in the first half - the fewest a team has scored in a half in a BIG EAST Championship final. The previous low was Pittsburgh's 17 points against Georgetown in the 2007 final.

The 94 combined points were the fewest in a BIG EAST Championship final.

Louisville outscored Cincinnati from the free throw line by an 11-1 margin.

Louisville held its opponent to 60 points or fewer for the 21st time in 35 games.

Louisville is 10-5 all-time in the BIG EAST Championship and has won nine of its last 11 games in the tournament.

Peyton Siva is the first Louisville player to win the Dave Gavitt Trophy as the tournament's most outstanding player. Jonny Flynn of Syracuse was the winner when the Cardinals won the title in 2009.
