
No. 16 Women's Basketball Holds Off Pittsburgh in Overtime

PITTSBURGH - The No. 19/16 Louisville Cardinals (19-7, 8-5) held off Pittsburgh (8-17, 0-12) for a 71-66 overtime road win on Tuesday night at the Petersen Events Center. Shoni Schimmel led four Louisville players in double figures with 16 points and six assists. Ashlee Anderson and Brianna Kiesel led the Panthers with 22 points apiece.
Louisville led 30-27 at the half after shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from behind the arc. The second half was a different story for the Cardinals who struggled from the field, shooting just 26.7 percent.
Pittsburgh took their first lead of the game with a tip in from Kyra Dunn at the 10:27 mark of the second half. The Panthers held their largest lead at 53-46 with five minutes remaining in the half.
Louisville got within three when Bria Smith hit two foul shots at the three minute mark. Pitt pushed the lead back to five on the next possession then Schimmel scored seven straight points for the Cards to take a 57-55 lead at the 1:50 mark.
Pittsburgh took a 60-58 lead with 26 seconds left but Antonita Slaughter made a jumper with 17 seconds remaining to tie the game. Smith got a piece of the Panthers' final shot and grabbed the ball to send the game into overtime.
The Cardinals took control in the final minutes of overtime, holding Pitt scoreless in the final two minutes for the win.
The Cardinals shot 80 percent from the field in overtime and hit 3-of-4 from the line to seal the win. Louisville finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the field while Pittsburgh shot 40 percent. Pittsburgh outrebounded Louisville 44-35.
Louisville will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 20 as they host No. 4 Notre Dame at the KFC Yum! Center at 2:00 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
