The University of Louisville Swimming and Diving team will host their first meet of the year against Xavier on Friday, October 12, 2012. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m., ET at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
Louisville enters the 2012-2013 season led by SwimSwam.com National Coach of the Year Arthur Albiero, who returns a veteran roster and a handful of new additions. Joao De Lucca, who competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games this past summer for Brazil, will look to lead the men this season. For the women, the Cardinals return Eszter Povazsay who also competed in the 2012 London Olympic games for her native Hungary.
The men's team for Xavier looks to build off of a third-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Championships in 2012, a mark that tied the 2006 and 2008 squads as the best in program history. Returning for the Musketeers is Sam Conchuratt, who picked up a pair of individual bronze medals in the 100-Yard Butterfly and 200-Yard Individual Medley plus one gold and two more bronze medals in relay events during the A-10 Championships. The Musketeers will also look for big performances from junior Chad Thompson, sophomore Eric Dirvin and newcomer Knox Hitt. Sophomore Carolyn Stewart of the women's team for Xavier returns for her second season. Stewart picked up three bronze medals in last season's conference meet, with two of the three coming in individual backstroke events. Junior Courtney Shields, sophomore Natalie Hyde and freshman Mackenna Rife are three other Musketeer swimmers to keep an eye on this season.
Following the meet against Xavier, Louisville will hold the Alumni Meet on Oct. 13 at 11:00 a.m., ET. The women's team will then travel to Dallas, Texas for the SMU Classic on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
