LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the third time this season, the University of Louisville track and field teams will head to Bloomington, Ind., competing at the Indiana Relays at the Gladstein Fieldhouse on the campus of Indiana University from Jan. 27-28.
Live results will be available each day of the two-day event at . The Cardinals open on Friday at 3 p.m. and continue Saturday at 10 a.m. against teams such as Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Illinois State, USF and Ohio State. It is estimated that more than 1,200 athletes will be at the meet this weekend.
Kim Cardeiro and Taylor Caldwell commence Friday's action in the women's and men's long jump events, respectively. The two will be looking to punch their tickets to the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in the event after already qualifying for the meet in the high jump.
The Cardinal women already have 17 student-athletes who have qualified for the league's championships, while the men's side currently has 12.
Following the pair of field events, Calvin Arsenault will race in the 60m hurdles trials. The freshman clocked a season-best time of 8.19 in the event at the Gladstein Invitational last weekend, good enough for ninth-best in the BIG EAST. It is the third-best freshman mark in the conference.
After Margret Harris' race in the 60m trials, Emmanuel Matadi will make his Cardinal debut in the men's 60m trials, as he is slated to participate in the event with Marcellus Hobbs. Mattadi ran two indoor and two outdoor seasons at Butler County Community College, appearing in the NJCAA National Championships in five different sprint events over that span.
In the distance events, Madie Davidson, Maria Frigo and Michelle Molodynia will run the women's mile, with Luke Lovelace and Andrew Stewart competing in the men's section of the event. Gordon Dooley and Mattias Wolter complete the day by racing in the men's 3,000m for the second time this season.
Amashi Kendall and Patrice Gates begin day two of the Indiana Relays in the weight throw, with Sam Bombaugh competing hours later in the event on the men's side. Kendall currently ranks 15th nationally in the event (19.46m/63-10.25), while Bombaugh checks in at 40th nationally (18.51m/60-8.75).
Also in the field events, Louisville will send Charachesicia Lockhart and Margret Harris to take part in the women's long jump. The duo rank in the top-35 nationally, as Lockhart has the 11th-best mark (6.12m/20-1) and Harris has the 32nd-farthest jump (6.00m/19-8.25).
Khadija Abdullah, who is seventh nationally in the shot put and is Louisville's highest ranking student-athlete, will compete in the event at 2 p.m.
In the vertical jumps, Michael Edwards, Michelle Theophille and Megan Schubert will look to improve upon their respective top-25 marks. Edwards opened the year with a strong clearance of 2.20m/7-2.5, which stands as 11th-best nationally. On the women's side, Theophille has the ninth-best leap after clearing 1.79m/5-10.5 and Schubert is listed as No. 22 nationally (1.76m/5-9.25).
The Cardinals conclude the meet with the women's and men's 4x400m relays.
