TEAM
- With the victory, Louisville improved to 9-8 all-time against Villanova and the Cardinals have won four of the last six in the series overall.
- Louisville head coach Rick Pitino improved to 7-8 in his career against Villanova, including 4-5 with the Cardinals.
- With its road win at Pittsburgh last Saturday and tonight's triumph, the Cardinals have earned back-to-back wins for the first time since their 12-game winning streak to open the season was halted.
- The Cardinals, who trailed 44-39 at the half, improved to 3-3 on the season when down after the first 20 minutes. It is the largest halftime deficit they have overcome this season and the first since a 69-62 win over the College of Charleston on Dec. 20 after trailing 37-33 at the break.
- Louisville, which ranked fourth in the nation in steals per game (as of Jan. 22) at 9.9 per game, finished with seven in Wednesday's win.
- Ranked sixth nationally in field goal percentage defense (37.2 percent) entering the night, the Cardinals held Villanova to 39.4 percent (26-for-66) on Wednesday. It marked the 12th time this season Louisville has held an opponent to 40 percent or less from the field.
- After shooting 48.5 percent (16-for-33) from the field in the first 20 minutes, Villanova's offense was limited to just 30.3 percent (10-for-33) in the second half while being outscored 45-30 during that span.
- Louisville improved to 5-0 this season and 13-0 in the last two seasons when scoring at least 80 points. The Cardinals are 114-7 during the last 11 seasons under coach Rick Pitino when scoring 80 or more points.
- The Cardinals improved to 2-3 this season when being outrebounded by the opponent.
- Louisville's eight three-point baskets are the most since making nine in the win at St. John's on Jan. 3.
- The 19 assists for the Cards are the third highest total of the season and the most since they had 22 at St. John's on Jan. 3.
- The nine turnovers for Louisville matched a season-low first accomplished against Georgetown on Dec. 28.
- The Cardinals finished with more made free throws (24) than Villanova attempted (23). It marked the third time in their last four games they have accomplished that feat and the eighth time overall this season.
PLAYER
- For the second time this season, Louisville had five players score in double-figures. The first occurrence came in the Cardinals' win over Memphis on Dec. 17 when seven players scored at least 10 points.
- Junior guard Peyton Siva led the way for Louisville in scoring for the first time this season matching a season-high with 16 points. He also had five assists marking the fifth time in the last six games he has finished with at least five assists.
- After missing Louisville's previous two games with a sprained ankle, senior Kyle Kuric has scored in double-figures in his last two games since returning to the lineup, including a 14-point performance on Wednesday. In his last five games, Kuric is averaging 15.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing.
- With his 14 points on Wednesday, freshman forward Chane Behanan has scored in double-figures in three straight games marking the second time this season he had such a streak. He also added seven rebounds in the win.
- Sophomore center Gorgui Dieng earned his ninth double-double of the season and his second straight finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. He also matched a career high with three assists and added two blocks.
- Senior guard Chris Smith scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the win. In last the five games, Smith is averaging 14.2 points while scoring in double-figures in four of those.
- Sophomore guard Russ Smith scored eight points, which ended his stretch of three straight games scoring in double-figures.
