LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville student-athletes Michael Eaton (cross country) and Rachel Gehret (track and field) were recognized for their success in the classroom, earning the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship awards.
To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes also must have an overall undergraduate cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 (based on a 4.0 scale) and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.
A two-time track All-American in the 10,000m, Eaton was one of 29 male NCAA student-athletes to earn the award in the fall. Double majoring in exercise science and sport administration, he garnered all-region honors in cross country all four years and achieved all-BIG EAST cross country status for three seasons.
Gehret, who earned first team All-America honors this season in the high jump, was one of 29 female NCAA student-athletes to earn the spring award. An exercise science major, she completed her collegiate career with five BIG EAST titles, winning two at the 2010 BIG EAST Indoor Championships and earning the distinct honor of BIG EAST Female Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet for her achievements.
