Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 at Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Louisville women's tennis team dropped its regular season finale match at the University of Houston 6-1. The Cardinals fall to 11-11 on the season while the Cougars advance to 16-7.
The Cardinals were able to produce a doubles victory when Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine downed Bryony Hunter and Dionne Sanders 8-5 as the top seeded pair. Louisville, however, was unable to capture the point, falling at the other two doubles spots. Amelia Harris and Stefanie Villajuan fell 8-4 to Houston's Giorgia Pozzan and Joanna Kacprzyk in the second slot while Gabrielle Duncan and Sarah Miller lost to Celia Fraser and Maja Kazimieruk 8-3 in the third seed.
Houston grabbed another point in singles action when Duncan fell 6-0, 6-0 to Kazimieruk in the five spot. Freshman Fellerhoff was able to get a point back for the Cards with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Fraser in the top seed, but Louisville could not build the momentum, losing the next four matches. Giorgia Pozzan downed Kaysara Mandry 6-4, 6-1 in the third spot, Hunter clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Shine, Sanders beat Sonia Bokhari 6-2, 6-2 in the sixth seed, and Kacprzyk defeated Harris in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at the fourth slot.
The Cardinals wrap up regular season play with a record of 11-11. Up next for the Cardinals is the BIG EAST Championships in South Bend, Ind. which begin April 28.
