Women's Tennis Falls 4-2 at BIG EAST

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-2 to Marquette in the second round of the BIG EAST Championships. The Cards gave up the doubles point and then were edged in singles by the Golden Eagles.
The Cardinals, 11-12, will move to the consolation bracket and play at 9 a.m. tomorrow against an opponent to be determined after this evening's play.
The Cardinals started strong in doubles when Becca Shine and Julia Fellerhoff handled Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz easily 8-1 at No. 1. But Sonia Bokhari and Sarah Miller fell 8-5 to Gillian Hush and Chelsea Utting to even things up and put the ball in the No. 2 doubles court. Marquette's Olivia Fischer and Rocio Diaz clinched the doubles point 8-4.
Becca Shine rolled 6-1, 6-1 over Paola Calderon and Amelia Harris prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 In singles play. The two quick wins at No. 2 and No. 3 put U of L ahead 2-1. However, the Cardinals struggled with the bottom of MU's lineup responded with decisions at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 to put the match away. Christina Ruiz beat Gabrielle Duncan at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0 right before Chelsea Utting pulled off a hard fought 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over a stubborn Bokhari at No. 6, and with an ace on her final point of the afternoon, Gillian Hush clinched the win for the Golden Eagles at No. 4, 6-4, 6-0, over Sarah Miller.
