
Track and Field Wraps Up Sea Ray Relays

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday evening at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium, with eight top-five finishes.
Rachel Gehret had the lone event title of the day for the Cardinals, collecting her second win of the season in the long jump. She registered a season-best mark of 6.13m/20-1.5 for the win, nearly a foot-and-a-half better than the runner-up.
In the women's throwing events, Louisville populated four of the top five spots in the women's shot put and had top-five showings in the women's discus throw and the women's javelin.
Khadija Abdullah charted a career-best mark of 16.41m/53-10.25 in the shot put for a second-place finish. D'Ana McCarty placed third (15.55m/51-0.25), while Amashi Kendall (15.21m/49-11) and Chinwe Okoro (15.20m/49-10.5) rounded out spots four and five, respectively. McCarty also competed in the discus throw invitational, posting a career-best mark of 53.44m/175-4 to finish third.
Jenna Wargo and Patrice Gates competed in the only other women's throwing event - the javelin - of the day. Wargo, competing for only the second time in her collegiate career, had a season-best throw of 44.70m/146-8 to take third, finishing behind two unattached competitors.
On the men's side, the Cardinals had three athletes in competition.
Michael Edwards tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 2.00m/6-6.75, while Neil Angermeier cleared the same height for eighth place. Josh Greenwald took part in the hammer throw, placing 12th on a toss of 49.73m/163-2.
Louisville returns to action in its second home event of the year, playing host to the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Friday, April 22. The one-day event takes place at Cardinal Park Soccer and Track Stadium, with the field events beginning at 10:30 a.m., and the track events starting at 3 p.m.
