Women's Tennis Falls to Rice

HOUSTON, Texas- The University of Louisville women's tennis team lost to No. 65 Rice University 7-0 on Friday in Houston, Texas. The Cardinals fall to 11-10 on the season while the Owls advance to 13-9.
In doubles competition, the Cardinals took three losses to fall behind 1-0. The duo of Kaysara Mandry and Amelia Harris fell to Alex Rasch and Dominique Harmath 8-1 at the No. 2 slot. Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine were beaten by Rebekka Hänle and Ana Guzman 8-5 at the top seed while Sonia Bokhari and Stefanie Villajuan lost to Daniella Trigo and Jessica Jackson 8-4 at the third spot.
With the doubles point secured, Rice was able to add to the lead with four singles victories in two-set matches. Alex Rasch downed Stefanie Villajuan 6-3, 6-0 in the sixth slot, Dominique Harmath defeated Rebecca Shine 6-3, 6-3 in the second seed, Jessica Jackson topped Kaysara Mandry 6-0, 6-3 in the third seed to clinch the match for Rice, and Kim Anicete beat Sonia Bokhari 6-3, 6-3 in the five hole.
The Owls had to fend off two strong fights from Julia Fellerhoff and Amelia Harris before eventually coming away with the 7-0 win. Harris won the first set of her match against Ana Guzman but could not hold on, falling 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3). Fellerhoff lost her first set to Rebekka Hanle but came back to tie the match before ultimately losing 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).
U of L will be back in action tomorrow as it takes on the University of Houston (15-7) at noon. The match against the Cougars will conclude regular season play for the Cardinals.
