AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Louisville rowing team closed out the Longhorn Invitational on Sunday with a varsity eight win over No. 10 Wisconsin at Lady Bird Lake.
In their final race of the event, the Cardinals' varsity eight crew finished with a time of 7:04.3 across the course to edge the Badgers' time of 7:04.35. It was the second win of the weekend for Louisville's varsity eight boat.
"It was a phenomenal race the entire way down the course against Wisconsin," said Louisville head coach Laura Aubrey. "Both crews put out a great fight, holding bow ball to bow ball coming in to the last 750 and making it a photo finish at the end. We wanted this weekend to be about progress in all boats coming down the course and I feel very good about what I saw from each boat."
In other races on Sunday morning, Louisville's second varsity eight boat finished with a time of 7:31.0, while Wisconsin led the way with a time of 7:19.7. In the varsity four race, the Cardinals had a time of 8:26.2, while the Badgers earned the victory with a time of 8:10.2. And in a third varsity eight race, U of L had a time of 8:02.0, while Wisconsin finished at 7:38.3.
