COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Playing in its first road contest of the year, the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will head to Cumming, Ga., to play Jacksonville on Saturday, March 12, at a neutral site. First draw is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m., and Jacksonville will be the home team.
The Cardinals have opened the year, with three-straight games at home, winning each of them. In its last contest, Louisville won a decisive 15-13 battle against Oregon on March 4. Liz Lovejoy, the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, scored a game-high five goals in the win. Six other players scored, including multi-goal performances from Lianne Bobal, Katie Oliverio, Sammy Allen and Jamie Redding. Emily Dashiell had five draw controls, while Ashley Herbst, who won her third game in goal, totaled four ground balls and had six saves.
Jacksonville enters Saturday's contest, with an overall mark of 4-3 after defeating Temple, 13-12, on March 9. Morgan Derner led the Dolphins with five goals, two courtesy of free-position shots. Five other players scored in the victory. Karli Tobin played all 60 minutes in goal and made 12 saves. Jacksonville led by a score of 13-8, before Temple's five-goal run fell just short. Defensively, the Dolphins held the Owls to 2-of-12 on free-position shots.
On the year, Derner leads the team with 16 goals in seven contests. Chelsea Watts, who has registered 10 points, owns totals of 14 draw controls and 16 ground balls. Statistically, the team's top defenders are Rachel Hannon (10 caused turnovers) and Abigail Warnken (nine caused turnovers).
The team is under the direction of Mindy McCord, who is in her second season at the helm of the program. The staff features a Cardinal alumnus in Jennifer Heup, who was a star in goal for Louisville. She helped lead the program to its first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament.
