TEAM
- Louisville collects its seventh 10-win season in conference play in the last eight years.
- It was another game and another stalwart defensive performance for U of L. The Cardinals extended their school record by allowing 55 points or fewer for the sixth straight game. Over that stretch, Louisville foes are shooting 33.8 percent (107-for-317) from the field and averaging just 51.2 points.
- Louisville allowed 23 points or less (21) in the first half for the seventh consecutive game, another school-record streak. In those first halves, in which opponents have averaged 21.0 points, Cardinal foes have shot just 30.5 percent (57-for-187) from the floor and 17.6 percent (12-for-68) from three-point land.
- All 15 of Louisville's opponents at the KFC Yum! Center this season have scored 31 points or less in the first half--the last 14 have all managed 27 or fewer. U of L opponents are averaging 22.5 points in the first half at the venue.
- The Cards are yielding 54.1 points per game at home in 2010-11.
- Louisville has held Seton Hall to an average of 50.8 points in the teams' six meetings, all Cardinal victories. The 50.8 point average is the lowest for any of the 85 opponents Louisville has faced at least three times.
Fewest points per game allowed in a series (minimum three meetings)
1. 50.8 - Seton Hall (3 meetings)
2. 51.7 - Coppin State (3)
3. 53.7 - Villanova (6)
- The 10-point margin was the smallest in the series, which had previously seen Louisville win by 20+ points each time. The five straight 20-point victories over one team was a U of L record.
Consecutive wins by 20+ points over one opponent, Louisville history
1. 5 - Seton Hall (2.25.06-2.24.10)
1. 5 - Bellarmine (12.7.76-12.3.79)
3. 4 - Cincinnati (3.3.90-1.2.94)
- Seton Hall has now scored fewer than 50 points in five of the six meetings between the two schools.
- Seton Hall and Villanova are the only two current BIG EAST schools to whom the Cardinals have never lost (6-0 against both).
- The Cards shot below 70.0 percent from the line for the first time in seven games. The six straight games with a .700 or better free throw percentage was the longest streak for U of L since a nine-game stretch from March 2-Dec. 3, 2003.
- Louisville has won 15 consecutive games when making more free throws than its opponent.
- The Cardinals notched eight steals in the game, their 38th consecutive contest with at least five thefts.
PLAYER
- With her block of fellow freshman Ka-Deidre Simmons in the first half on Saturday, Sheronne Vails set a new Louisville single-season record for blocks by a freshman, breaking the old mark of 42 set by Nell Knox in 1989-90. Vails now has the sixth-most blocks in one year in Cardinal history.
Blocks in a season, Louisville history
1. 59 - Yuliya Tokova (2006-07)
2. 56 - Angel McCoughtry (2006-07)
3. 48 - Becky Pope (1979-80)
3. 48 - Audrey Baines (1977-78)
5. 46 - Nell Knox (1992-93)
6. 43 - Sheronne Vails (2010-11)
6. 43 - Chauntise Wright (2007-08)
8. 42 - Angel McCoughtry (2008-09)
8. 42 - Nell Knox (1989-90)
8. 42 - Audrey Baines (1979-80)
- Freshman Shoni Schimmel was held off the scoreboard for the first time in her career. She had made a three in 24 straight games, the fifth-longest streak in school history and longest by a freshman. Only Sara Nord, Kristin Mattox, and Becky Burke have recorded longer streaks.
Consecutive games making at least one three, Louisville history
1. 36 - Sara Nord (2.8.02-3.6.03)
2. 26 - Kristin Mattox (1.30.93-1.9.94)
3. 25 - Becky Burke (11.22.09-2.24.10)
3. 25 - Sara Nord (11.24.03-3.5.04)
5. 24 - Shoni Schimmel (11.23.10-2.23.11)
6. 22 - Kristin Mattox (2.25.94-1.26.95)
- In her last home game, Keshia Hines attempted the first three-pointer of her career and struck gold. The triple capped off a 19-6 first-half run for the Cards.
- Hines picked up the 10th double-double of her career (and fourth this season), finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hines becomes the first Cardinal senior to post a double-double on Senior Day since Leatrice Scott had 25 points and 12 rebounds against Southern Miss on Feb. 19, 1995.
- Hines, Scott, Kelly Rose, and Janet McNew are the only Louisville seniors in the last 31 years to notch double-doubles on Senior Day.
Double-doubles by seniors on Senior Day, since 1980-81
2.26.11 - Keshia Hines (12 pts, 10 reb)
2.19.95 - Leatrice Scott (25 pts, 12 reb)
2.27.93 - Kelly Rose (13 pts, 11 reb)
2.13.83 - Janet McNew (20 pts, 10 reb)
- Sophomore Shelby Harper notched three assists without a turnover in the contest, giving her eight assists and just two turnovers in the last four games.
- Junior Becky Burke extended her streak of consecutive free throws made to 19, connecting on both of her tries on the afternoon. Burke has made 20 of 21 (.952) attempts from the stripe in BIG EAST play, the highest of any player in the conference with at least one made free throw per game. Burke does not have enough makes, however, to qualify for the conference lead, held by Marquette's Tatiyiana McMorris (42-for-45, .933).
- Burke has hit 34-of-37 (.919) from the line on the season and could challenge for the Louisville single-season record in that category. To break the mark, Burke must shoot better than 92.1 percent (the record percentage achieved by Kristin Mattox in 1995-96) with at least 45 made free throws.
Highest single-season free throw percentage, Louisville history
Minimum 45 made
- Burke's five three-point attempts on the day (two made) move her into fifth place in Louisville history for three-point tries (450). She passed Angel McCoughtry (448) and will likely go ahead of Jill Morton (452) the next time out.
- Junior Monique Reid extended her own free-throw streak to 20, ending the game 2-for-2 from the stripe. Reid has scored 71 points (23.7 per game) over the last three contests.
- Reid made seven of her 11 shots in the game, giving her a field goal percentage of .651 (28-for-43) over the last three games.
- Sophomore Tia Gibbs extended her streak of consecutive games with multiple steals to eight. That streak has been bested only by Angel McCoughtry and Sara Nord over the last 11 years. Teammate Nikki Burton actually has an active seven-game streak but has been out of action this season with an injury.
