Two Track and Field Athletes Set Season-Best Marks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams completed the final day of the Akron Invitational, held in Akron, Ohio, and the Tyson Invitational, which took place in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday evening.
In a competition that featured some of the nation's elite, the jumps group had six top-15 finishes at the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Megan Schubert and Michelle Theophille finished sixth and 10th, respectively. Schubert cleared 1.73m/5-8, while Theophille registered a mark of 1.68m/5-6. Currently, both hold top-50 marks nationally in the event.
On the men's side, Michael Edwards and Neil Angermeier posted marks of 2.10m/6-10.75 in the high jump, placing ninth and 12th, respectively. In the pole vault, Kyle Gann tied for fifth, with a mark of 4.75m/15-7, and Kevin Jackson had an 11th-place showing after a vault of 4.45m/14-7.25.
At the Akron Invitational in the Stiles Field House, home of the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, two athletes set season-best marks. Marcellus Hobbs, who placed fifth in the 400m, was clocked at 49.72, his fastest time this season. Maggie Gilbertson, competing in the high jump, landed a fourth-place finish, with a season-best 1.64/5-4.50.
Chelsea Lucas and Andrea Sabbatine had top-10 marks in the pole vault. Lucas took seventh, with a vault of 3.67m/12-0.50, just one-hundredth of a meter off her season best. Sabbatine came in 10th after a mark of 3.52m/11-6.50.
Other athletes competing at the Akron Invitational included Chinwe Okoro (seventh in the shot put), Kim Cardeiro (11th in the long jump) and Jordon Frazier (12th in the 400m).
Next week, Louisville will return to Akron, Ohio, for the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The event begins on Saturday, Feb. 19 and continues on Saturday, Feb. 20.
