Lola Arslanbekova had 13 kills and Emily Juhl pitched in ten to deliver a one-two punch as the University of Louisville rolled 25-23, 25-14, 25-23 over South Florida Friday night at the USF Recreation Center.
U of L improves to 9-1 in the BIG EAST and 17-6 overall. USF drops to 9-13 and 5-4 in the conference. The Cardinals hit .402 as a team and outdug the Bulls 40-33. U of L notched six aces, led by Juhl's two. Caitlin Welch had a match-high 17 digs.
In the first set, U of L took the lead at 11-10 but USF managed to tie at 22. However, an attack error and kill by Arslanbekova tipped the set to the Cardinals. U of L blew out to a 21-11 lead in the second set and two USF errors late gave the Cardinals the 25-14 win. After trailing early, U of L took the lead at 11-10 in the third on a kill by Tanya Lukyanenko. U of L held the Bulls at arm's length but USF managed to tie at 22. The Bulls staved off match point twice but Arslanbekova closed the match at 25-23.
Louisville kept its rhythm on offense throughout the match because Emily Juhl was able to post 10 kills and record a .500 hitting percentage.
"We couldn't stop her on the right side. That was the killer," USF Coach Claire Lessinger said.
