LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's track and field's Michael Edwards was named the BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office, based in Providence, R.I., announced late Tuesday afternoon.
An England native, Edwards registered a 2.15m/7-0.5 mark in the high jump at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on Jan. 22. The mark ranks No. 1 in the BIG EAST - overtaking Neil Angermeier's top mark in the conference - and is tied for No. 13 nationally.
Edwards becomes the second men's athlete to earn the award after Wesley Smith was tabbed the BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 7.
Louisville returns to action on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky. Competition for the two-day event will take place at E.J. Nutter Field House.
