LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams resume action with their second meet of the season at the Kentucky Track and Field Invitational in Lexington. The event, which takes place at Nutter Field House begins on Friday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m., and continues on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
On Friday, teams will compete in the weight throw, pole vault, high jump and triple jump. The squads will wrap up the aforementioned events on Saturday, before moving on to the running events.
Along with Louisville and event-host Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Alabama and Michigan State will be among the teams sending both men's and women's squads. Live results will be available on UKAthletics.com.
The Cardinals opened the indoor season on Dec. 3 at the Southern Illinois Fast Start Invitational, and D'Ana McCarty (weight throw) and Khadija Abdullah (shot put) posted NCAA automatic qualifying marks. Currently, both Abdullah's mark (55-7.75/16.96m) and McCarty mark (72-10.5/22.21m) rank second nationally. Along with their first-place finishes, Ahlivia Spencer (600m), Neil Angermeier (high jump), Kyle Gann (pole vault), Wesley Smith (long jump) and Weston Banks (shot put) also posted first-place finishes at the competition in their respective events.
At last year's meet, McCarty (weight throw) and Tone Belt won titles on the first day of competition, while Smith placed first in the long jump with a mark of 25-4.50/7.73m, while Matt Bruce won the 3,000m race in 8:13.50 on day two.
