Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville Women's Basketball head coach Jeff Walz announced the addition of Liz Sherwood to his staff on Tuesday afternoon. Sherwood will serve as a graduate assistant for the Cardinals.
"We are very excited to have a person of such stature join our program," Walz stated. "After having played professionally oversees and competed as a student-athlete in the SEC and BIG EAST, Liz will no doubt bring a wealth of knowledge and perspective when mentoring our elite student-athletes. She has a great pedigree and is hungry to learn."
Sherwood played for three seasons at Vanderbilt University, earning her degree in Economics in 2008 after transferring from the University of Connecticut in 2004. She was a McDonald's High School All-American, WBCA All-American and First Team Parade All-American out of Highlands Ranch High School in Colorado. She also won a National Championship in 2004 with Connecticut and was named to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team. At Vanderbilt, Sherwood was named the Southeastern Conference Sixth Woman of the Year in both 2006 and 2007. During that span she was ranked second in the country in field goal percentage.
"Joining a program that is recognized around the country as one of the best, is truly and honor," said Sherwood. "After seeing the tremendous success and momentum Coach Walz has been able to attain in such a short amount of time is nothing less than remarkable. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best staffs in the country and help to sustain the tradition excellence both on and off the court."
