
Softball Concludes Regular Season This Weekend at Connecticut

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will conclude the regular season this weekend at Connecticut where they will play a three-game BIG EAST Conference series.
The Cardinals (34-16) have already clinched a spot in the league tournament and stand at third in BIG EAST Conference play with a 13-6 mark. Connecticut enters the weekend with a 21-27 overall mark and at 7-12, in a tie with Rutgers and USF for eighth in league play.
U of L is led offensively by All-American senior catcher Melissa Roth who is batting .415 with 15 home runs, 50 runs and 44 RBI. Freshman Jordan Trimble follows with a .313 average, 33 RBI and 23 runs. Freshman Alicja Wolny stands at third, batting .308 with 19 doubles and 24 RBI. Senior Vanessa James rounds out the .300 hitters with a .302 average, 34 runs, 16 stolen bases and 18 RBI.
Sophomore Tori Collins (15-4) leads the Card with a 2.51 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 134.0 innings pitched. Senior Kristen Wadwell carries a 15-10 record and a 2.98 ERA. The All-American has 135 strikeouts in 164.1 innings of work.
Cards Against Connecticut
Series Record: Louisville leads 5-4
Last meeting: May 7, 2009 - Louisville won 4-0 in the first round of the BIG EAST Conference tournament. The Cardinals also swept the 2009 doubleheader 1-0 and 6-0 at Ulmer Stadium.
Scouting the Huskies: Connecticut enters the weekend with a 21-27 overall mark and at 7-12, in tie with Rutgers and USF for eighth in league play. Julianne Towers leads the the Huskies with a .340 batting average, nine home runs, 39 runs and 26 RBI. Amy DeLuca follows at .321 and 21 RBI. Kiki Savriano holds a 12-13 record and a 2.44 ERA with 149 strikeouts in 163.2 innings of work.
Louisville to Host 2010 BIG EAST Championship
The BIG EAST Championship returns to Louisville, Ky., for the third straight season. The three- day tournament begins on May 13 with four quarterfinal games. The semifinals on May 14 and the championship game on May 15 will be aired live on CBS College Sports.
