STARKVILLE, Miss. - - University of Louisville junior third baseman Chelsea Bemis has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for games played between April 19 and April 25. She becomes the first player in program history to earn national player of the week honors.
Bemis went 11-for-15 over five Big East wins for the Cardinals last week with eight runs, 13 RBIs, a double, a stolen base and six home runs. She ended the week with a .733 batting average, a 2.000 slugging percentage and a .778 on base percentage.
The San Diego, Calif., native hit a home run in every game but one last week, however she made up for it by going yard three times in the first game of a doubleheader against St. John's (NY), tying a school record in the process. Bemis posted at least one hit, one run and one RBI in each of her five games last week, in addition to posting three multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games.
The Cardinals will head into the penultimate weekend of the season with a 32-15 overall record and an 11-5 record in league play. With just six games left in the season, Louisville currently sits in third place in the Big East, three games behind league leaders 25th-ranked Notre Dame and DePaul.
