
Track and Field Sweeps BIG EAST Men's Weekly Awards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track and field team swept the BIG EAST Outdoor Weekly Awards as junior Matt Hughes was named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Tone Belt earned BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Hughes won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on April 16. His time of 8:45.05 ranks first in the BIG EAST and fourth in the NCAA in 2010.
Belt, who entered the weekend with the conference's top marks in the high jump and long jump, won both the events with solid marks. In the high jump, Belt cleared 7-01.50 (2.17m), while leaping 24-07.75 (7.51m) in the long jump. His high jump mark is currently ranked 16th in the NCAA and his long jump distance is sixth best in the nation.
The Cardinals will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays, which will take place April 22-24. The Cards will then travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for the BIG EAST Championships April 30-May2.
