The No. 23/24 University of Louisville softball team will go back on the road fo face a tough slate in Cal State Fullerton's Judy Garmen Classic. Louisville will open the tournament Thursday against No. 2 Arizona in a rematch of the 2009 NCAA regional game. Louisville will then travel to Northridge to play Cal-State Northridge. Friday will pit U of L against New Mexico and Purdue - another 2009 regional opponent. U of Lwill face host Fullerton Saturday and close the weekend against No. 15 Texas.
The Cards are led offensively by senior catcher Melissa Roth who is batting .485 with five home runs, 24 runs and 18 RBI. Senior Vanessa James follows with a .366 average, 15 runs, 12 stolen bases and 11 RBI. Freshman Jordan Trimble rounds out the top three with a .295 average, eight runs and 17 RBI.
Sophomore Tori Collins (5-2) holds a 2.45 ERA with 54 Ks in 45.2 innings. Senior Kristen Wadwell (6-5) carries a 4.14 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 69.1 innings of work. Freshman Chelsea Leonard (4-1) has a 4.13 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 39.0 innings.

Cards Against the Field
Arizona
Series Record: Arizona leads 2-0
Last Meeting: May 16, 2009 - Arizona won 18-4, handing the Cards their worst loss in program history in an NCAA regional game at Ulmer Stadium Scouting the Wildcats: Second-ranked Arizona enters the weekend with a 22-1 overall record with its only loss a 10-5 decision to then-No. 6 Missouri. Since that time, the Wildcats have rattled off 15 straight wins. Brigette Del Ponte leads the team with a .491 avearge, nine home runs and 36 RBI. Brittany Lastrapes follows with a . 463 average, eight homers and 31 RBI. Kenzie Fowler (15-0) has been solid in the circle, posting a 0.84 ERA with 126 strikeouts in 83.2 innings.
California-Northridge
Series Record: First meeting
Scouting the Matadors: Northridge enters the weekend with a 12-13 overall record. The Mastondons are led offensively by Jennifer Mosier, who is batting .404 with four home runs. Amanda Pitzenberger (7-3) holds a 3.48 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.
New Mexico
Series Record: New Mexico leads 1-0
Last Meeting: March 16, 2001 - New Mexico won 6-1
Scouting the Lobos: New Mexico brings a 9-12 record into the tournament. Katie Gilmore leads the Lobos with a .426 average. Stefanie Carramusa follows with at .391 with 18 runs and 13 RBI. Kaela DeBroeck (4-6) has logged 60.2 innings of work and carries a 4.27 ERA.
Purdue
Series Record: Tied 3-3
Last Meeting: Feb. 26, 2010 - Louisville won 6-5 at at Ulmer Stadium
Scouting the Boilermakers: Purdue enters the weekend with an 8-11 record. Liane Horiuchi leads the team with a .347 average, 20 runs and 16 stolen bases. Molly Garst follows at .338 with 10 rusn and 12 stolen bases. Suzie Rzegocki (5-8) carries a 3.24 ERA with 69 K's in 82 innings.
CS-Fullerton
Series Record: First meeting
Scouting the Titans: Fullerton enters the weekend with a 3-21 overall record with wins over Southern Utah, Wisconsin and Baylor. The Titans are led offensively by Torrie Anderson, who is batting .221 with six home runs and 15 RBI. Ari Cervantes (1-7) carries a 5.53 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.
Texas
Series Record: First meeting
Scouting the Longhorns: No. 15 Texas brings a 20-4 overall record into the tournament. The Longhorns are coming off of a 1-0 loss to North Texas but have wins over North Carolina, LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Longhorns are led by Tallie Thrasher's .514 average, six home runs and 16 RBI. They have belted out 39 homers on the season with Shelby Savony's seven leading the way. Blaire Luna (10-2) carries a 0.88 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 72.0 innings of work.
Recapping the Weekend
Louisville is coming off of an 0-3 performance at the Red & Black Classic. The Cardinals opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Hofstra in the opening game. In the nightcap, the Cards built a 5-0 lead against fifth-ranked Michigan, but couldn't hold on as the Wolverines scored nine unanswered runs. On Sunday, the teams played to a 3-3 tie through seven innings, before Michigan erupted with four runs in the eighth.
Up Next
The Cardinals travel to Indiana for a midweek game on March 24 before opening BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game series against DePaul March 27-28 at Ulmer Stadium.
Card Notes
Melissa Roth owns the career doubles record with 57, she surpassed Keola Calderon's mark of 53 which has stood since the 2003 season
Roth also holds the all-time record for runs with 169 - she passed Courtney Moore's previous high of 162 set in 2007.
Vanessa James' three stolen bases against Houston tied a school record for stolen bases in a game.
Roth recently snapped a career-high 12 game hitting streak. She has still found a way to reach via walk or being hit by a pitch in all but one of Louisville's games, the 2-0 loss to Ohio State.
