LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville junior D'Ana McCarty was awarded the BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week, while senior Tone Belt collected BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday.
McCarty threw 73-04.50 (22.36m) at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Feb. 5 in Notre Dame, Ind., topping her own 2009 NCAA Championship-winning weight throw and setting a school and facility record in the process. The NCAA automatic-qualifying throw was accompanied by an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put at 50-11.50 (15.53m). The Indianapolis, Ind. native's shot put distance earned third place in the meet and currently stands at 24th on the NCAA descending order list.
Belt took first place in the long jump at the Meyo Invitational, posting a distance of 25-06.25 (7.78m) which is the seventh-best mark in the country. The Berkeley Springs, W.Va. native also placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 7-00.25 (2.14m). Both met NCAA provisional-qualifying standards.
This is the fourth time this season that U of L has garnered conference accolades and they have now posted nine BIG EAST Indoor Weekly Awards, surpassing their total (7) from a year ago.
The Cards return to action on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
