LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field team are traveling back to South Bend, Ind. this weekend to compete in the prestigious 23rd annual Meyo Invitational.
The Cards will get enter the heart of their indoor schedule with the Meyo Invitational. "This is one of the top meets of the 2010 NCAA indoor season" head coach Ron Mann said. The two-day meet always features some of the top athletes in the nation and will be held on an oversized track (300m) at the Loftus Center located on the Notre Dame campus. Friday's single session will begin at 5 p.m. (CST), while Saturday is divided into two sessions, with unseeded sections in the morning followed by the invitational selections in the afternoon.
Junior Matt Hughes will be looking to achieve qualifying marks in both the famous Meyo Mile and the Ryan Shay 3,000m run. The Meyo Mile has traditionally been a grueling race to break the 4:00 mark with some of the best collegiate runners entered. The Ryan Shay 3,000m run was named in honor of the legendary Notre Dame and USA Track and Field Team member who died unexpectedly on Nov. 3, 2007 during the running of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon trails in New York City.
The No. 14 ranked Cardinal women are led by throwers D'Ana McCarty and Jere' Summers. McCarty currently holds the best weight throw mark in the NCAA this season (71'11.5) and is the reigning NCAA champion. Summers is ranked in the top 5 nationally in both the shot put (54'8.75) and the weight throw (67'11).
