LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track and field team has added to its 2010 recruiting class by signing two student-athletes, in addition to high jumper James White, to National Letters of Intent for the 2010 season, head coach Ron Mann announced Wednesday.
"This is a great start to our recruiting class with two top 10 recruits," said Mann. "We will continue the recruiting process with more excitement to come."
The Cardinals signed yet another stellar class this year. In addition to White, the Cards 2010 class is led by thrower Sam Bombaugh. A Falmouth, Mass. native, Bombaugh, is currently ranked 10th in the nation in the indoor shot put. The senior won the shot put at the 2009 New England Outdoor Championships, placed second at the 2009 New England Indoor Championships and placed 12th at both the 2009 NIKE Indoor and Outdoor Nationals. While his personal best in the shot put is 61-5, he is also outstanding in the discus with a personal best of 155-0. Bombaugh brings great depth to the throwing group with the loss of Cardinal senior Steven Hnat to graduation.
The Cardinals continued their great success in recruiting distance runners by signing Foot Locker Finalist Tyler Byrne of Georgetown, Ind. The North Harrison High School product is the fifth Foot Locker Finalist to sign with the Cards in the Ron Mann era. Byrne was one of only four runners in the nation to qualify for both the Foot Locker and NIKE Nationals. The Kentuckiana native finished seventh at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in a time of 15:33.1 earning him All-American honors. Byrne's older brother, Ryan, is currently a senior for the Cardinals.
