In the first half, the Cardinals held Connecticut to just 25.9 percent shooting from the field and 14.3 percent from behind the arc. Connecticut, who entered the game leading the nation in blocks, recorded one in the first half.
Senior Jerry Smith, who averaged just 5.4 points in the last five games, exploded for 14 first-half points and also added five rebounds. Smith finished the game with those same 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
