Louisville freshman Emily Juhl notched BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season, while five teams, including Louisville, have locked up spots in the BIG EAST Championship in Pittsburgh Nov. 19-21. The BIG EAST regular season concludes this week.
Juhl earns BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors with two impressive performances last week. The Louisville, Ky., native had 13 kills, seven aces and eight digs in a win over West Virginia on Nov. 7. The seven aces were two shy of a school record and tied the BIG EAST season-high for most aces in a match. Juhl also had double-digit kills against Pitt, notching 10 kills with a .409 hitting percentage. The freshman ranked first in the conference in aces per set (1.14) and third in hitting percentage (.444) for the week.
Juhl's teammate, Lola Arslanbekova, was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Lola ranked second in the conference last week with 4.86 kills per set and recorded 20 kills and nine digs against Pittsburgh.
Louisville, Marquette, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame have already clinched. Villanova became the fifth team to clinch a spot in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship after a pair of victories last week. Three spots are still up for grabs with only two teams mathematically eliminated and eight teams vying for a chance to qualify for the championship.
