TEAM
- Southeast Missouri State became the 176th different opponent in Louisville history and the 55th under head coach Jeff Walz. The Cardinals are now 121-55 (.688) all-time in first meetings against opponents, while Walz is 43-12 (.782) when facing an opponent for the first time as Cardinal head coach.
- The Redhawks were the third straight first-time opponent for Louisville.
- Louisville collected nine fast-break points to Southeast Missouri State's none; the Cards have outscored their opposition 35-4 on the fast break so far in 2010-11.
- After another sensational start (16-0 run to begin the contest), the Cardinals have now outscored their opponents 42-6 in the first four minutes of games thus far this season. None of Louisville's foes have managed more than two points before the 16:00 mark, as U of L led 6-2 against Tennessee, 8-2 versus Ohio, 16-2 against Houston Baptist, and 12-0 against Southeast Missouri State at that point.
- The 16-0 run to begin the game--spanning 5:12--was Louisville's sixth run of 13 or more unanswered points in the last three games. Against Ohio, the Cards put together a 21-0 first-half run (covering 8:00) and a 14-0 second-half stretch (6:55) before putting together runs of 26-0 (7:34), 20-0 (8:52), and 16-0 (6:24) in the Houston Baptist game. The Cardinals added a seventh such run (13-0, covering 5:01) early in the second half Friday night.
- After recording its best single-game assist-to-turnover ratio (2.08; 25 assists, 12 turnovers) in over three years in the 100-34 win over Houston Baptist, Louisville dished out five assists before committing a turnover on Friday, first turning the ball over at the 13:20 mark of the first half. Counting the end of the Houston Baptist game, the Cards committed no turnovers during a stretch of 9:20.
- Louisville's 33-point first-half lead tied for its largest in any game over the past 12 seasons. The Cardinals also led by 33 at the break (50-17) against Georgia Southern on Nov. 26, 2005, in an 88-44 win.
- U of L's +120 scoring margin (197-77) over the last two games obliterated the school record for point differential over two consecutive games--the previous mark was +88, achieved during the 1975-76 season and then again in 1990-91. The top five two-game scoring margins in school history:
1. +120 (197-77) - 11.17.10-11.19.10
2. +88 (207-119) - 2.22.91-2.23.91
2. +88 (163-75) - 2.24.76-2.25.76
4. +86 (187-101) - 1.25.92-1.27.92
5. +85 (194-109) - 1.16.93-1.23.93
5. +85 (157-72) - 11.29.77-12.3.77
- No Louisville team had even collected consecutive 45-point victories before the Cards won the past two games by at least 54 points each. Friday's 54-point margin of victory tied for the fifth-highest in school history.
- The Cardinals' 197 points over the last two games rank as the second-highest two-game total in school history, bested only by the 1990-91 squad's 207 points in contests against Northern Arizona (98-58) and Appalachian State (109-61).
- U of L notched back-to-back 95-point games for just the second time in Cardinal history (see previous note).
- In addition to achieving the second-highest point total over two games in Cardinal annals, Louisville held its opponents to the fourth-fewest two-game point sum in U of L history and lowest since the 1977-78 season. The five lowest two-game opponent point totals in school history:
1. 68 (39-29) - 2.20.76-2.24.76
2. 72 (25-47) - 11.29.77-12.3.77
3. 75 (29-46) - 2.24.76-2.25.76
4. 77 (34-43) - 11.17.10-11.19.10
5. 80 (49-31) - 1.31.76-2.4.76
- Louisville has allowed just 124 points over its past three outings, the third-lowest three-game opponent point total in school history. The two lowest totals both came during the Cardinals' inaugural season of 1975-76 (114 from Feb. 20-Feb. 25 and 121 from Feb. 24-March 1).
- U of L has held its past three opponents to fewer than 50 points, something only the 1975-76 team had accomplished in Louisville history. That squad held four consecutive opponents under 50 in Murray State (39), Xavier (29), Georgetown College (46), and Morehead State (46).
- The Cardinals collected 19+ steals in back-to-back games (exactly 19 in each), the only time that has occurred in the last nine seasons. Louisville had not picked up 19 thefts in a game since 2007-08 prior to the last two contests.
- The Redhawks' .246 (14-for-57) shooting percentage was the lowest for a Louisville opponent since Baylor shot .245 (13-for-53) on March 28, 2009, in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
PLAYER
- Senior Keshia Hines was held without a steal for the first time in nine games (she had averaged 2.5 steals per game over the last eight contests).
- Hines' double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) was the sixth of her career.
- The nine made free throws were a career-best for Hines, while her 11 attempts tied a career mark she first achieved on Jan. 26, 2010, against Villanova.
- With her sixth converted free throw of the evening, junior Monique Reid tied Gwen Doyle (1990-92) for eighth place in Louisville career history in free throws made. Reid, who is 240-for-308 (.779) for her career from the charity stripe, is also fifth in Cardinal history in career free throw percentage.
- After her 16-point performance on Friday night, Reid has now scored 13+ points in 12 straight games.
- Reid collected fewer than five rebounds (three) for just the second time in the last 26 games.
- Two days after setting the mark, Reid matched her career high in steals with four.
- Sophomore transfer Tia Gibbs missed her first five three-point tries on the year, but has since made six of her last eight. Gibbs was a perfect 3-for-3 from distance against Southeast Missouri State.
- Gibbs' five field goals made tied a career high, a mark she has now reached on four separate occasions.
- Gibbs' 11 first-half points were a personal single-half best. Her previous career high for points in a half came in the first half (nine points) of a 61-54 win over No. 5/6 Auburn on March 8, 2009 (while playing for Vanderbilt). Her 13 points on the day were two short of her career mark (15 against Liberty on Dec. 22, 2008).
- Gibbs also tied a career high with four steals, a feat she has accomplished four times now, including in each of the past three games. She becomes the first Louisville player with four or more steals in three consecutive games since (surprise) Angel McCoughtry from Jan. 17, 2009-Jan. 31, 2009 (four against Georgetown, eight versus Cincinnati, four against Connecticut, and eight against Providence).
- In the first 19 games of her college career, Gibbs averaged 3.7 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 37.5 percent (24-of-64) from the floor and 28.6 percent (10-for-35) from three-point range. Over her last 14 games--her last 10 with the Commodores and her first four with the Cards--, on the other hand, Gibbs is putting up 7.7 points and 3.4 boards per outing while shooting 48.2 percent (40-for-83) from the field and 42.6 percent (20-for-47) from distance.
- Since turning the ball over seven times (with no assists) in the first half against Tennessee, freshman Shoni Schimmel has notched 19 assists with just three turnovers. She dished out 11 assists between her only miscue against Ohio and her next turnover, which occurred at the beginning of the second half against Southeast Missouri State (her only turnover of the contest).
- Senior LaToya Johnson was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, tying a career high for field goals made (third occurrence).
