Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On Monique Reid's winning shot) "She finally went strong to the basket and was not concerned or worried about getting her shot blocked and all of the other stuff that goes through Mo's head sometimes. She got the ball up there and that was one of our three options off of the play. Gwen (Rucker) made a nice pass to her. She got it ripped it, took it strong to the basket and went up and finished. It was really nice to see a basket that we desperately needed."
(On Monique Reid's struggles during the game) "I just keep telling her, `Mo if I'm running plays for you, I have confidence if you.' We're just trying to continue to work with her and continue to get her into the gym to work on her shooting. I tried to explain to her today that if you walk into an exam that you haven't studied for, you do not have much confidence. If you study for it, you feel good about it. If you don't practice your shot, you're not going to have confidence that you're going to make it. You get her to understand this by get ting her into the gym 15 minutes before practice along with 15 minutes after practice to shoot as many shots as she can."
(On the key to the last four minutes of the game) "We did a nice job defending, then we attacked the basket, and then we got to the free throw line. We stepped up and made some free throws. In the first half, we were terrible at the free throw line, and that really hurt us and put us in a hole. I felt that we did a good job contesting three-pointers the last five minutes, which really helped us. We're just excited for the win. It is one that we really needed bad."
Louisville Forward Keshia Hines (On getting the tough win) "I think we have a whole bunch of things to work on. I don't think we followed our game plan but we came out with a win, which is great. We needed that win because we were on a bad drought."
(On coming back in the final minutes) "Basically Coach told us that this is a must win game. In our heads we were thinking we had to win regardless of what happened, no matter what. We had to focus on what we were taught and what we practiced on all week, which was playing great defense and taking it at them."
(On the last free throw) "Coach Walz told me to bank it. I was thinking in my head `Should I miss it and bank it? Or should I make it and bank it?' So I just threw it up there. It is amazing how when we try to make them we miss free throws, and when we try to miss them we make them."
Louisville Forward Monique Reid
(On being aggressive and scoring 20 points) "I try to be more aggressive because last game I was out of it. I didn't score until the second half. I just tried to get aggressive. I could have done a few more things. I forced a couple of shots but a win is a win. I'm just glad we got out of this drought."
(On the last shot) "Coach Walz said set a screen for Shelby (Harper) and if you get it don't even think about it, just drive it right at her. I did and I'm so glad it went in."
(On preparing for the game) "We just try to realize that every possession counts and when we take a break we lose the possession. That's what he means by we lose by five possessions. For example, at Georgetown when we miss a rebound, that is losing a possession. We are just trying to work on it in practice and trying to get better. We still have a long way to go. But playing with seven people, I think we're doing pretty good."
(On getting fatigued in the last five minutes of games) "I don't really think about it like that. We still have to play and win even though we have injuries. We still have to go out there and play hard and our leaders have to step up. We're a young team but we have sophomores and juniors that can step up mentally. The last five minutes of the game is all mental. We have to come together as a team and play every possession."
