The most important thing in Greg Scruggs' life is his family. Greg grew up in a humble background in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father died at a young age and his mother convinced him and his older brother to apply, qualify, and enroll in Cincinnati Boys Hope, a private school that helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their potential.
Boys Hope provided Greg and his brother a family-like home environment with opportunities and education to prepare them for college and beyond. His mentor at Boys Hope was Katrina Allen, program director with whom Greg still stays in contact. Greg states that Boys Hope provided the educational foundation that made it possible for him to qualify and enter Cincinnati St. Xavier High School and later, the University of Louisville.
At St. Xavier high school, Greg excelled in the classroom and football. His coach, Steve Specht, who is entering his 15th season as an educator and coach continued the mentoring of Greg. Coach Specht and Greg are so close that coach Specht has become Greg's substitute father. Coach Specht earned respect from his players and they reciprocate by performing their very best in the classroom, outside the classroom, and on the football field. He teaches his players to play with passion, love, and to respect others. Joining Greg from St. Xavier high school at U of L is sophomore Darlus Ashely, running back, wearing number 8 and sophomore Stephon Ball, tight end, wearing number 87.
Greg will likely be the first person in his family to graduate from college. After graduating with an accounting degree in the next couple years, Greg wants to continue his involvement with Cincinnati Boys Hope. Boys Hope has played such a huge part in Greg's life because he believes that without this guidance and tutoring he is not sure what path he would have traveled.
Through Boys Hope, Greg has been able to meet many business leaders that have provided guidance and mentoring to prepare him for college and life after college. Greg said without Boys Hope, he would not have had the opportunity to attend St. Xavier, and without St. Xavier, he would not have had the opportunity to attend the University of Louisville Greg is enthusiastically looking forward to the beginning of Spring Practice and working with the new coaching staff headed by Coach Charlie Strong.
