Women's Tennis Falls to Marquette

The University of Louisville dropped their first match of the season with a 5-2 loss to BIG EAST rival Marquette Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early led, sweeping the doubles point. Paola Calderon and Olga Fischer earned the first doubles win over Louise Noe and Mandy Brownat No. 2 for the Golden Eagles, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Cardinals Sarah Miller and Kaysara Mandry battled Gillian Hush and Kelly Barry but fell 9-7 tipping the doubles point to Marquette . The U of L pair of Amelia Harris and Stefanie Villajuan was defeated 8-4 by Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz to round out the doubles action at No. 1.
Marquette earned the match victory as its first three players tallied wins over the Cardinals. At the No. 2 spot, Fischer was the first to finish for the Golden Eagles, 6-3, 6-2, over Amelia Harris. Gillian Hush earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Stefanie Villajuan at the No. 6 singles spot, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before pulling away with the point.
Ruiz tallied the fourth and decisive point of the match for Marquette, capturing the first set over Ashley Irvin, 6-4, and playing a close match in the second set, at 3-2, before going on a three point run to win the point.
Rachael Hush fell in the first set to Mandry before retiring midway into the second set. Louisville's Mandy Brown had a convincing first set over Barry, 6-1, before Barry started strong in the second set. The freshman jumped out to a 5-2 lead before surrendering the next five points to Brown.
At No. 1, Calderon was handed a close loss by Miller in the first set before rebounding to even the score with a 6-2 win in the second set. In the lone third set match of the day, Miller fell 6-0 in the final set.
