
Track and Field Travels to Notre Dame Invitational

LOUISVILLE Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field program will travel to South Bend, Ind. on Saturday, Jan 23 for their third meet of the 2010 indoor season at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Cardinal women's team is ranked No. 18, while the men are right outside the top 25 at No. 32 in the latest USTFCCCA poll.
The Notre Dame Invitational will have only three teams competing. Louisville, Michigan State and host Notre Dame make up both the men's and the women's field. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday with the long jump/weight throw. The invitational concludes with the 4x400-meter relay tentatively set for 1:55 p.m.
U of L performed very well last week at the Kentucky Invitational. The men and the women combined to receive both of the BIG EAST Weekly field honors: junior D'Ana McCarty was named BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week while sophomore Wesley Smith earned BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week.
McCarty, the reigning NCAA indoor weight throw Champion, owns the best throw in the NCAA this season with her heave of 71-11.50 (21.93m).
Smith, a Chesapeake, Va. native, currently holds the second-best long jump of the 2010 NCAA indoor season with his leap of 25-04.50 (7.73m).
After finishing the Notre Dame Invitational, the Cards will travel back to Lexington, Ky. for the Rod McCravy Invitational on Jan. 29.
