The University of Louisville women's tennis team rallied after dropping the doubles point to come back to a 5-2 win over visiting Bowling Green State University in the Cardinals' first dual meet of the spring season.
"We started off very nervously," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham, whose lineup featured all first and second year players. "With a young team, that is to be expected. So I was concerned but I felt we would loosen up and take care of the individual courts in singles."
Mandy Brown and Gabi Duncan notched the only win in the doubles point as they paired to beat Sam Kintzel and Jessica Easdale 8-3 at No. 3. But the Falcons took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches for the doubles point.
The Cardinals came back with a strong singles performance, winning handily No. 2 through No. 6.
"I am extremely happy with how all the first year players competed and handled the adversity of being behind in a match," said Beckham. "After we relaxed, I felt like we played really good tennis and this is a good starting point for the rest of the spring season."
