
Cardinals Cross the Ohio River for Hoosier Hills Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The nationally ranked University of Louisville men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at their final meet prior to the BIG EAST Championships this weekend when they cross the Ohio River and travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
"We hope to get our timing down for our push at the conference championships," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "It's going to be a great meet and an important one for us because we have to prepare ourselves for what is probably going to be the most competitive conference championship I have seen in my four years here in the BIG EAST."
U of L will have 29 women and 15 men competing this weekend. The unscored meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET and the Cardinals are set to conclude their events at 8:45 p.m. ET.
The Cards who are in search of their first-ever men's or women's BIG EAST Indoor Championship have 61 qualifiers (32 women, 29 men) entering this weekend's competition. They also have 11 NCAA Indoor Championship qualifiers, including one automatic bid.
U of L is coming off a highly successful weekend at the Meyo Invitational and Rod McCravy Memorial in which they earned four NCAA provisional qualifying marks, improved their national rankings in three events, and set three school records.
Leading the way for the No. 10 ranked Cardinal men was red-shirt junior Andre Black who earned NCAA provisional qualifying status in the long jump with a leap of 24-10 (7.57m). The three-time All-American also picked up the triple jump title.
Sophomore Phil Feinberg also earned provisional status after clearing 7-00.25 (2.14m) in the high jump, while senior Andrew Hackney improved his qualifying mark in the weight throw with a toss of 65-11 (20.09).
Red-shirt junior Tone Belt rounded out the list of event winners for U of L as he reached provisional status for the second straight meet in the high jump, clearing 7-01.50 (2.17m).
Sophomore Kyle Gann set a new school record and personal best in the pole vault, clearing 15-11.75 (4.87m).

Red-shirt sophomore Tarah McKay shattered both her previous school and personal best in the Meyo mile run by over six seconds with a time of 4:41.27, which moved her up the NCAA event rankings list.
Junior Saravia Richardson won the 60-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and school record time of 7.44, while freshman Khadija Abdullah improved her NCAA mark in the shot put with a throw of 51-00.25 (15.55m).
Rounding out the list of event winners for the Cards were sophomores Emily Borsare (5,000m) and D'Ana McCarty (weight throw).
The 4x400-meter relay team (Lecia Brown, Kiersten Kirkland, Shane Mullany-Banks, and Heather Trimiew) also set a school record with a time of 3:47.60.
The Cards will return to action on Feb. 21-22 at the BIG EAST Championships in New York, N.Y.
