Volleyball Signs Brauneis, Juhl and Welch

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Caitlin Welch of Louisville (Mercy), Emily Juhl of Louisville (Sacred Heart) and Taylor Brauneis of Crystal Lake, Ill. (Prairie Ridge) have all signed National Letters-of-Intent to continue their volleyball careers at the University of Louisville.
"This is the strongest freshman class we have ever had at the University of Louisville," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin.

| Caitlin Welch Position: Libero Hometown/HS: Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy Travel Team: MAVA Caitlin Welch, a libero from Mercy Academy in Louisville was a member of the two-time reigning state championship team. She is a two-time first team all-state member and this year was the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Most Valuable Player. Named the Region 6 player of the year this season, her team at Mercy Academy finished with 36 wins to just 6 losses. During her junior year, Caitlin's team only lost one match and finished with an impressive 40 wins en route to their second placed national finish. Caitlin is a member of the all-district and all-region teams for all four years of her high school career. She is also a three-time AAU All-American, and a four time member of the Berkeley Premier All-Tournament Team. Her biggest thrill in sports is winning back-to-back state championships and admires former U of L volleyball player Sarah Drury, a libero for the USA National Team. | Emily Juhl Position: Outside Hitter Hometown/HS: Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy Travel Team: MAVA Emily Juhl, a outside hitter from Sacred Heart was named to the AAU National All-American team in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009. She was named the Most Valuable Player at the AAU National Tournament in 2006 and the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association named her to the All-State First Team the past three seasons. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Junior Volleyball Directors Association National Showcase and National Finals in 2008. A PrepVolleyball.com National High School All-American Team in 2008, she was also named one of the Top 40 Senior Aces in 2009. Emily is a member of the Kentucky State All-Tournament Team in 2008 and 2009 and is a four-time member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association All-State Academic Team. She is the recipient of the 2009 Region 7 Player of the Year Award. She was a member of the MAVA club team that won the AAU National Tournament in 2006, and placed second in 2007 and third in 2009. | Taylor Brauneis Position: Setter Hometown/HS: Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge HS Travel Team: Club Fusion Taylor Brauneis, a setter for Stefanie Otto at Prairie Ridge High School, was nominated as one of the top 50 players the past three years by The Chicago Sun Times and was a member of the all-area second team her sophomore and junior year. In her sophomore year, she set a school record for most setting assists with 879. Taylor broke the school record for setting percentage, 99.9%, and kill blocks (128), during her junior year. She was nominated on Prep Volleyball as a senior ace. Playing for Eric Schulze at Club Fusion, her club team took first place at Nationals when she was sixteen years old when her team came from two games behind to win the first place match at Nationals.
