Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On Keshia Hines not fouling out) "I was shocked! I called our head of officials at the BIG EAST on Friday and told her that there is a chance that a few of our kids could foul out and if that happened could they keep playing since we only had seven players. They called the officials to make sure that was alright. I had it figured that Keshia would play about 12 minuets and foul out. For her to only pick up two fouls and play as aggressive as she did, I was thrilled. If she can continue to do that and develop that presence in the post like then it will take a huge amount of pressure off of our guards. With the guards being as young as they are they are going to need some pressure taken off of them."
(On Ashley Rainey's first career game) "It is not a big surprise for me. That is the way she has been playing in practice everyday. I have been told by people from day one, the question on Ashley was that she would not go hard all of the time; you really have to push her. That is one kid I have not had any problems with. I have not had to tell her from day one to go hard and I told her about two weeks ago that she was going to start today's game because of how much effort she has been showing. Everyone saw tonight that the kid is on fire. When she is in there, she is an undersized post-player who is not afraid of mixing it up and showed that she has some range. She is just a solid basketball player. We might not get those kind of stats from her every night but we will get the effort from her. That is something that I cannot coach, it is deep inside of her."
Louisville Center Keshia Hines
(On starting the new season) "Basically we just tried to come out and play hard for 40 minutes. We had a bunch of new players and only seven healthy players. This was our `get in shape' game."
(On how she played today) "A couple days at practice Coach was saying Keshia is going to foul out in the first game. So I had it in my mind that I wasn't going to foul out. I was going to be strong with the ball. He told me that I needed to be an offensive threat this year."
(On the good start) "We had a good start but we have lots of things to work on in our offense."
(On Ashley Rainey's performance) "She's great. The sky is the limit for her. All she has to do is work hard and she can do anything she puts her mind to."
(On Ashley Rainey's work ethic) "She's very consistent on what she does. She brings it everyday. No matter if she's sick or hurt, she's bringing it everyday in every practice and every drill."
Louisville Forward Ashley Rainey
(On being nervous in her first start) "Looks can be deceiving. I was really nervous, I'm not going to lie. The first basket eased my pain and took away the nervousness."
(On getting comfortable) "I never really got comfortable. I was nervous the whole game. Even when I wasn't in the game I was still nervous."
(On how this game helps her confidence) "It helps out. Everybody underestimated me coming into this season, so I had to prove everybody wrong."
(On finding out about first career start) "I found out after the first couple of practices. Coach said Ashley Rainey, I don't care what you're doing, you're starting the first game. You can go ahead and put it on facebook. I knew early on that I was going to start."
(On impressing Coach Walz early) "I tried to show him everything I had and lay it all on the line."
