- WR Scott Long's 92-yard TD reception from QB Adam Froman in the third quarter was the third longest completion in U of L history. Long had a career high 146 yards on five catches, his second career 100-yard receiving game (134 yds, 5 receptions vs USF last season). In his second start, Froman completed 14 of 26 passes for a career-best 248 yards.
- U of L gained a season-high 439 yards in total offense tonight. Southern Miss entered the game 22nd nationally in total defense, allowing 286.6 yards per game.
- RB Victor Anderson caught four passes for a career-high 47 receiving yards. He also completed his first career pass, an 11-yarder to QB Adam Froman on the Cards' first touchdown drive.
- WR Doug Beaumont extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 17. He has started 17 straight games along with OG Abdul Kuyateh and LB Jon Dempsey.
- Andrew Robinson, who has played wide receiver for his entire career, moved to cornerback in practice this week and made his first career start at the position against Southern Mississippi. Robinson had played the first four games at wide receiver this season.
- U of L produced its two longest scoring drives of the season, marching 88 yards in nine plays on its second drive of the game and covering 90 yards in three plays to take a third quarter lead.
- OT Jeff Adams made his first start of the season at offensive tackle. Adams was a starter for all 12 games in 2008. Three players made their debut with the Cardinals tonight: OG Joe Evinger, a transfer from College of the Canyons, DB Shenard Holton, a freshman from Bowling Green, and WR Scott Radcliff, a freshman from Louisville who caught a two-point conversion in the third quarter. Holton and Radcliff are the fourth true freshmen to play for U of L this season (also LB Horace Miller and S Hakeem Smith)
- WR Troy Pascley caught his first pass of the season, a 10-yard reception for a first down in the second quarter.
- Michele Harpring (mechanical engineering major) and Ahmed Awadallah (bio engineering major) were named Homecoming Queen and King, respectively, at halftime.
- The six new inductees to the University of Louisville Athletic Hall of Fame were honored pregame. The group included Tommy Barnes (U of L letter winner from 1991-93), a former shortstop who is the career hits leader for the Cardinals; Theresa Borho (1978-82), a field hockey goalkeeper who is second in career shutouts at U of L; Michael Mather (1996-98), the Cardinals' first tennis All-American who was undefeated in dual matches during the regular season his senior year; Kristin Mattox Cox (1992-96), a two-time All-Metro Conference guard who is the fourth highest career scorer at U of L; Roman Oben (1992-95), an All-America offensive lineman for the Cardinals who went on to play 12 seasons in the NFL; and Ted Washington (1987-90), a dominating defensive lineman for the Cardinals who went on to play 17 years in the NFL.
- In addition to the Hall of Fame inductees, among the former Cardinal football players in attendance for homecoming included Ernest Givins, a speedy receiver for the Cardinals from 1984-85 who played 10 years in the NFL (Houston Oilers 1986-94, Jacksonville Jaguars 1995); Browning Nagle (U of L 1989-90), the Cards quarterback on its 1991 Fiesta Bowl Championship team and a four-year NFL veteran (New York Jets 1991-93, Indianapolis Colts 1994); and Harry Douglas (U of L 2004-07), a second year receiver with the Atlanta Falcons who is sidelined for the season with a knee injury suffered in preseason camp.
