Louisville Coach Steve Kragthorpe
"I thought our defense played well and it was nice to see our offense score on the opening drive. It was a good day. We had a lot of guys see significant action and overall it was a good picture."
"It's always good to win. The opening drive was impressive to put seven points on the board and our defense played well. It allowed our offense to get in a rhythm."
(On the running game) "We emphasized that on offense. We wanted to run down hill and smack somebody. Our backs ran hard, especially Victor. He did a nice job of taking things from the inside and kicking them outside. We ran very physical today, especially our top three guys."
(On defending the Tech offense) "We had some concerns going in because of the four-wide configurations. We wanted to make sure we had the option with the quarterback and pitch covered. We did a good job of making sure we ran down hill on defense. And our defense did a good job of penetration."
"It was good to see us come out and attack on offense and defense. We also scored on special teams and defense. Any time you score in all three phases, it's a good thing."
(On bouncing back from the UK game) "Our guys did a good job from the day we got back after the UK game. They focused on the task at hand, which was getting better and beating Tech. We had good practices all week in all three phases. We knew we couldn't look back at that game and we did a good job with that. I'm proud of our players and coaches."
(On the Cards' trio of running backs of Anderson, Bolen and Powell) "I think all three backs ran well. We'll need to count on all three of them all season long. As violent as this game is, especially at this level, we'll need our depth. It's a change with those guys and they all do things well. They all run well between the tackles and they do a good job of catching the ball. We're going to need all three all season and all three played well today."
(On the play of Hunter Cantwell) "Hunter played well, especially early in the game. We were able to get the running game going and implement the passing game. He was right on a dime, especially the pass to Pascley, which was a big throw on his part. I thought he did a nice job. He took some hits he shouldn't have, but Tech did a nice job in their 34. I thought his communication with the rest of the players was good today. I thought he was very even keel. He came out on Tuesday and did a good job preparing to do what was needed to beat Tech. He's a strong character guy and he did a good job of leading and being upbeat all week."
(On the move to play Campa at MLB over Canady) "It put a little more speed on the field for us, which was needed because of their offensive sets. Even a guy like Dexter Heyman didn't play a lot today because we were in our Nickel defense so much. We would've had some guys that played a lot more if we had been up against an I-formation team, but they didn't play as much because we were in the Nickel."
Louisville RB Victor Anderson
(What was the difference this week?) "It all started with the linemen that came out firepower blocking. The running backs just came out and ran the ball."
(on his first touchdown) "It felt great to get my first touchdown and get that out of the way. It feels like they will come a lot easier now. If the offensive line keeps doing their job and the running backs keep doing their jobs and the receivers keep blocking then we will keep getting touchdowns."
"The coaches were giving me the ball and I just decided to run it. I wasn't thinking about 100 yards. I just wanted to help my team."
(on rebounding from last week) "We just came back out and practiced with intensity and enthusiasm. We aren't looking back, we are just going to keep moving forward. After the loss, we just put it behind us. You can't keep looking back to the past. You just have to march forward to the future. You can't live your life off failures, we just picked ourselves up and came out and practiced."
Louisville NT Earl Heyman
(Is the win what the doctor ordered?) "I would definitely say for the younger guys to come out and get playing experience and feel the atmosphere of a game and get a win underneath our feet, it was exactly what the doctor ordered."
(on rebounding from last week) "We just wanted to get better. We have this thing in the locker room, we want to get better every game, win lose or draw. Obviously last week was a tough loss and we just came back in the locker room and decided we had to get better. That is our whole focus, getting better from game to game and practice to practice."
Louisville WR Doug Beaumont
"We went through the week, had tough practices and we corrected things from the Kentucky game. Then went out there today and balanced out the offense and had a great game. We had a great running game, like Vic Anderson. We had great catches from our receivers like Troy Pascley. We just came out strong today."
(What was the difference from last week) "We did better with some blocking schemes that we messed up on last week, that could have gotten us a touchdown. We had better concentration on the ball this week, so we didn't have the drops we had last week. We made bigger wholes for the running backs to run through so we could come out there and score a lot."
(on your consistency) "I feel pretty good right now. I am just going out there trying to make plays for the team. That is just my role right now, Hunter Cantwell is looking me up and I feel pretty confident."
Louisville Quarterback Hunter Cantwell
(on changes made) "Just came out and played with confidence, had fun, executed and kind of cut down on some of the mental mistakes. We still have a lot to work on, but I think we improved from last week."
(on running backs) "Oh yeah, the running backs are doing great. Brock (Bolen) and Victor (Anderson) obviously had a great game. It takes a lot of pressure off of the quarterback. The DB's started biting on the play action. We got some good looks."
(on wide receivers) "The receivers played well and had a great running game. I really didn't feel any different throwing them the ball. Last week was one of those things that everything kind of went wrong. We didn't play well, myself included. We came out and played better, had fun, executed better and put the points on the board."
Tennessee Tech Coach Watson Brown
"I'm proud of the kids. We knew what we were coming into. You play these kinds of games and it's dangerous when the score can get away from you. Especially when you are playing an angry bunch. We hung in there and played hard. I think it's important to play these games because you're not going to play a better player or better team in conference. You can leave with a little confidence that way. We had to play a whole lot better to even keep the game close. On the last possession we scored, I looked out there and we were playing nine freshmen against their backups. I want to thank coach Kragthorpe for not running up the score."
(On Lee Sweeney) "They crowded us. We knew they would. They came out and pressured him a little bit. They wanted us to hold the ball to get it downfield. He only had one bad throw. I took him out in the second half. I told him I didn't want him out there playing against his old teammates while we were getting beat pretty good. I thought he had a good first half."
(On Henry Sailes) "Henry did some crazy things. He did some things he's not used to doing. It's not like him. Like on that last punt when he went back and touched the ball. Henry is a very hard player and he's a good player in the open field."
(On how it prepares you for the rest of the season) "I really think it will help us. You can't get hung up on the score. I've been a division 1 coach for the last 35 years, and now I'm in division I AA and it's a big difference - and you can't get hung up on that. We need these games financially, because the money is already spent."
Tennessee Tech Quarterback Lee Sweeney
"You don't want anyone to put up that amount of points on you, but I think we played well. You just can't expect to play against a defense which is a powerhouse. I think offensively we had some mistakes. We can't make mistakes against a good team. If you want to have a chance, you have to execute perfectly. Our defense played great, but we didn't put them in good field position all day. I'm proud of their effort."
(On playing against good competition) "It's just going to help slow everything down all season long. We won't see as good a defensive line as we did today. It's going to help me see things quicker - because Louisville is a lot quicker on defense."
(On coming back to Louisville) "It was fun. Anytime you're going to go up and play a division 1 school, and especially me playing against Louisville. I got the question if I was nervous, but I don't get nervous, I get anxious. But it was fun just to see some of the guys after the game. I talked to some of the guys last night before the game. It was just a great time."
(On Tech's offensive line) "Most of the time when I got hit, I knew that I was going to get hit and I knew that I was going to have to throw hot. I got hit one good time and I'm pretty sure that's the hardest I've ever gotten hit. But I'm proud of them, I think they did well and I'm sure they have things to correct, just like I do."
"I think we played pretty well, but the scoreboard doesn't show it. We had a lot of mistakes on special teams. We've just got to come out and get ready to play a conference game on the road."
