SYRACUSE, N.Y. - - The eleventh-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell 3-0 to host third-ranked Syracuse at J.S. Coyne Stadium Friday afternoon.
Shannon Taylor put SU up, 1-0, just 3:24 into the game. The goal was setup by a Syracuse corner with Maggie Befort providing the push Martina Loncarica the stop.
The teams remained scoreless the rest of the half, with the Orange outshooting the Cardinals, 9-5. SU also had a 5-1 edge in penalty corners at half.
In the second half, Syracuse scored twice in a three minute span to increase the lead to 3-0.
Anne-Sophie Van de Post put SU ahead, 2-0, at 43:42. That goal was also setup by a Syracuse corner with Befort and Loncarica providing the push and stop. Lindsey Conrad scored at 46:30 to put the Orange up, 3-0. Loncarica also provided the assist on that goal.
Junior goalkeeper Heather Bustanoby collected eight saves in the contest for the Cardinals who were shut out for the first time this season.
Syracuse (7-0, 1-0 BIG EAST )outshot Louisville 16-8 and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Louisville (3-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) will play New Hampshire (4-2) Saturday at 12:00 p.m., at Syracuse's J.S. Coyne Stadium.
