- U of L's defense limited the Wildcats to 210 total yards and just 63 rushing yards. It was the fewest yards the Cardinals have allowed since holding Florida Atlantic to 202 total yards in a 61-10 victory on Oct. 1, 2005. It was the fewest yards the Cardinals allowed on the ground since limiting Grambling to 60 rushing yards in a 52-0 victory on Sept. 9, 2000.
- On the first play of his collegiate career, redshirt freshmen DE William Savoy was credited with a sack in the end zone, providing the Cardinals' only two points of the game on a safety. He had pressured UK QB Mike Hartline in the end zone, resulting in an intentional grounding in the end zone penalty. It was Louisville's first safety since 2005 against Pittsburgh.
- Wide receiver Doug Beaumont (9 catches, 77 yards) and Josh Chichester (3 catches, 45 yards) each made his first collegiate reception in the first quarter.
- Until today's game, the last time the Cardinals were shut out in a half was at Florida State on Sept. 23, 2000 when U of L was shut out 23-0 for the game.
- The Cardinals gained 205 yards in total offense, its fewest since producing 176 yards vs. Cincinnati in a 24-14 loss on Nov. 7, 2002.

On offense, tight end Pete Notcha, offensive guard Mark Wetterer, running back Bilal Powell, tackle Jeff Adams and wide receiver Josh Chichester all made their first career starts. On defense, linebackers Dexter Heyman, Antwon Canady and Jon Dempsey made their initial collegiate starts.
- Wide receiver Trent Guy, who was shot approximately seven weeks ago, returned to action with 8:53 remaining in the first quarter.
- Defensive tackle L.T. Walker missed the game with a high ankle sprain.
- Today's crowd of 42,696 was the third largest in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium history and the largest for a University of Louisville opener.
