
Field Hockey Tops Indiana 4-1 in Exhibition

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated host Indiana 4-1 Sunday in the final preseason exhibition game.
Senior Lauren Schaefer put the Cards on the scoreboard when she converted on a penalty stroke with under a minute remaining in the first half.
In the second half, sophomore Nikki Auker gave Louisville a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 44:47 mark.
Three minutes later, the Hoosiers pulled within one on Kelsey Kiper's goal.
Freshman Lauren Schmeing increased the lead to 3-1 at the 62:06 mark. Sophomore Nicole Youman registered the final goal with assists from freshman Hayley Turner and sophomore Tuli Lim with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
Junior Heather Bustanoby collected three saves in 35:26 minutes of play, while freshman Erin Conrad posted two stops. The Hoosiers outshot the Cards 12-8 in the game and held a 7-1 penalty corner advantage.
No. 13 U of L will officially open the 2008 season against No. 12 Duke on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Trager Stadium in the first game of the 2008 Champions Challenge. No. 8 Michigan State and Delaware will meet in the second game at 2 p.m.
