
Softball to Celebrate Senior Day against Evansville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will take a break from BIG EAST Conference play and celebrate Senior Day Tuesday at Ulmer Stadium against Evansville. The Cards will honor seniors Skye Miller and Sarah Totten prior to the 5 p.m. game.
U of L will then travel to Richmond, Ky. for a single game against Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. The Cardinals will close out the regular season with BIG EAST doubleheaders at Connecticut and Providence.
About Louisville: The Cardinals (27-18, 12-6) are currently tied for third in the BIG EAST Conference and have secured a spot in the league tournament which will be held May 8-10 at Ulmer Stadium.
U of L is led offensively by sophomore catcher Melissa Roth who is batting .375 with 38 runs, 19 doubles, four triples and eight stolen bases. Freshman 3B Chelsea Bemis follows with a .323 average, a team-leading 46 RBI and five home runs. Senior 1B Sarah Totten rounds out the top three with a .300 average, 26 runs, 24 RBI. The Cards' number two hitter has tied a single season record with 15 sacrifice bunts.
Kristen Wadwell (16-11) leads in the circle with a 2.09 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 194.1 innings pitched. She is holding opponents to a .215 batting average and has tossed complete-game shutouts in three of her last five outings while posting a 0.64 ERA.
Up Last: U of L secured a spot in the conference tournament and moved into third place in league standings by sweeping BIG EAST Conference leader South Florida 11-0 and 3-2 in Tampa on Saturday, April 24. Kristen Wadwell got both wins and Melissa Roth went 3 for 7 with five RBI in the series.

Last Meeting: May 1, 2007, Evansville won 2-1 in Evansville. The Cards outhit the Aces 6-2, but Krista Price broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Scouting the Aces:Evansville (22-19, 8-12 Missouri Valley) recently won two of three games against MVC opponent Bradley and moved to seventh in league standings. Evansville is led offensively by Brittany Herald, who is hitting .415 with nine home runs and 26 RBI. Krista Price follows with a .291 average, and leads the team with 28 runs and 12 stolen bases. Jacki Badley (10-12) has shouldered most of the pitching duties and has posted a 2.82 ERA with 98 strikeouts in 149.0 innings pitched.
Roth and Wadwell Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Sophomore catcher Melissa Roth helped lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 record on the week, batting .400 (4 for 10) with a double, three runs and three RBI. Roth's performance included a three-run double in the 11-0 win over USF. She now leads the team with 19 doubles and is one away from tying the school's single season record. She also stole two bases on the week and was hit by two pitches to set a new single season record at 17. Roth posted a .500 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. She leads the team with a .375 batting average, 38 runs, 19 doubles and eight stolen bases.
Sophomore Kristen Wadwell went 3-0 in the week, allowing two runs with two shutouts for a 0.74 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 19 innings. She pitched every inning for the Cardinals and notched two complete game shutouts, including an 11-0 decision against conference-leader USF and a 4-0 win over host Indiana. She gave up 16 hits, limiting opponents to a .222 batting average in three games.
