Powell Leads Cardinal Men on Final Day of Tyson Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Juniors Jere' Summers and Seidre Forde moved up the NCAA event rankings with school record performances and top five finishes to lead the University of Louisville track and field team Saturday at the prestigious Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas' Randal Tyson Center.
Summers, a native of Oakland, Calif., and a transfer from Cal State Northridge, set a new school record and finished fourth overall in the shot put with a mark of 53-09.75, the eighth best throw in the nation in 2008. The throw breaks Summers' own previous school record throw of 53-03 set in December at the SIU Fast Start.
On Friday at the Tyson Invite, Summers had a throw of 63-08.25, which matches her second best mark ever and the fifth-best throw in school history to finish second overall in the field of 34 in the weight throw. Summers is an NCAA provisional qualifier in both the shot put and the weight throw this season and is the U of L school record holder in both events.
In the triple jump, Forde, a native of Green's St. George, Barbados, earned a fifth-place finish with a school record leap of 43-04.25, the eighth-best jump in the nation in 2008. With Saturday's performance, Forde improves on her previous school record leap of 42-11.75 set at SIU in December. She is the U of L record holder in both the triple jump and the long jump.
For the Louisville men, freshman Seon Powell led the way with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 49-09.25, while junior Andrew Hackney and freshman Phil Feinberg earned seventh-place finishes in the weight throw and high jump respectively. Hackney had a throw of 62-02.50, while Feinberg had a cleared height of 6-08.75.
Up next, the Cards will compete at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 in New York City.
