BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The 12th-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated host Indiana 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at IU Field Hockey Field. The Cardinals improve to 13-5 as they head into the final game of the regular season against Georgetown on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
U of L capitalized on a penalty corner to get on the scoreboard with just under three minutes remaining in the first half. Sophomore Nicole Youman connected on an assist from freshman Hayley Turner to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Louisville took the 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Indiana 8-2 and holding a 9-2 penalty corner advantage.
Five minutes into the second half, sophomore Tuli Lim tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season on a penalty corner assist from senior Lauren Schaefer for the eventual game-winner.
Indiana cut the lead to one with under two minutes left in the game when Alina Valenti collected a rebound off of Cardinal goalkeeper junior Heather Bustanoby's pads and made it a 2-1 game at the 68:14 mark.
Louisville held a 12-7 lead in both shots and corners in the game. Bustanoby posted two saves while Alex Mann had five stops for the Hoosiers (7-9).
U of L (13-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) will wrap up the regular season and celebrate senior day on Saturday, November 1 when Georgetown visits Trager Stadium for a BIG EAST Conference game. The Cardinals have already clinched a spot in the league tournament - a win on Saturday would give them a share of the regular season title.
