- Today's U of L victory over No. 14 USF marked the second win over a ranked opponent for Coach Steve Kragthorpe at Louisville. It was the first since U of L defeated 15th-ranked Cincinnati 28-24 last season.
- When Hunter Cantwell and Scott Long hooked up for a 69-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, it was a new career-long pass and reception for both players. Cantwell bettered his career-long by one yard, as his previous best was a 68-yard touchdown pass to Mario Urrutia in a win over Middle Tennessee in 2006. The 69-yard touchdown reception was the first of Long's career. His previous long catch was 45 yards last season against Utah. Long's 134 receiving yards were a career high (5 receptions, two touchdowns).
- Louisville limited USF to just 14 yards rushing, the fewest allowed by the Cardinals since Syracuse totalled 19 on the ground in a 23-12 U of L victory on Oct. 21, 2006. The Bulls had entered the game 25th nationally in rushing offense, averaging 194.6 yards per game.
- The Cardinal defense produced seven tackles for loss (43 yards), the fourth game in which U of L has recorded at least six in a game this season.
- Four Cardinals had season highs in tackles -- FS Bobby Buchanan (5 solo, 1 asst), Earl Heyman (4 solo, 2 asst), Andrian Grady (3 solo, 3 asst) and SS Latarrius Thomas (4 solo).
- QB Hunter Cantwell produced the first rushing touchdown of his career with a one-yard quarterback sneak in the second quarter.
- CB Woodny Turenne snatched his team-leading fourth interception of the season and fifth of his career on USF's first possesion of the third quarter. CB Johnny Patrick pulled down his second career interception in the fourth quarter. USF QB Matt Grothe had thrown only three interceptions on the season entering today's game.
- C Eric Wood made his 44th straight start at center, while tackle DT Earl Heyman made his 32nd consecutive start.
- K Ryan Payne booted his first career field goal, a 34-yarder in the fourth quarter. He had attempted just one previously.
- OG/OT Greg Tomczyk made his first career start at offensive guard and the second start of his career. He started at offensive tackle in the Cardinals' 39-28 win over Kansas State on Sept. 17, 2008.
