Junior Forward Angel McCoughtry
(On the three-pointer with one second left on the shot clock)
"I didn't know it went in, I was just worried about drawing the foul, and then everyone started screaming and I was like `what happened,' and then I realized it went in."
(Did you change anything about your shot?)
"My rotation was off, so now I line up the seams and it has a good rotation."
Sophomore Guard Brandie Radde
(On hitting four three-pointers)
"I just have to credit my teammates on that, I think three of the four were off skip passes or when teammates attacked and I had the chance to get my feet set, and they found me open."
(On guarding Krystal Ellis)
"She is a tough player to guard, just when you think you're on her in her face, she is three or four feet behind the three-point line and she knocks it down. On top of that you have to be careful because she is great at penetrating."
(On four of the next five games being on the road)
"Road games are always tough. Everyone likes their home court, but I think we showed by playing nine of our first thirteen non-conference games on the road and getting some big wins that were capable of going on the road and beating some good teams. As long as we work had and play together, we will be alright."
Senior Guard Patrika Barlow
(What was the difference down the stretch?)
"I think we just focused. Before we would have a stretch of five minutes when we wouldn't score or we would look to Angel to do everything. Today everyone just stepped up and we made some big stops. Defense was the key."
(On guarding Krystal Ellis)
"She wore me out. She is tough, she made a big shot when she stepped back and I was right on her. She is a good player, she keeps moving and if she was frustrated, you couldn't tell because she kept shooting and made some good shots."
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On going back on the road this weekend)
"I'm not too concerned about road wins, home wins - we just need wins. We have to go on the road to play Pittsburgh next. It's going to be a really tough game. It's not like we haven't played on the road this year. We played 13 non-conference games - nine on the road. It's not strange. We played at Kentucky, at Western Kentucky, we've played at some pretty tough places. It's just a mindset. We've got to do what we do well. That's what we did tonight. We got 20 offensive rebounds and we got 23 points off of those. You want at least a one to one ratio and we're actually a little better than that. Our free throw shooting - we were 22 for 29 and Angel steps up and goes 13 for 14. Candyce Bingham shoots 4 for 4. That's what we have to do in order to be successful."
"The other stat that's glaring when you look at it - we got 36 points off of their turnovers. Everybody knows, if they watch us play, that we are not a great `walk the ball up the floor, let's run a set play' team. We've got to get it out and run and get some things going in transition. I was really proud of them tonight. When we had to get some baskets, we ran some set plays, we executed and scored."
(On Patrika Barlow calling the timeout with one second on the shot clock to set up Angel McCoughtry's three-pointer)
"One thing I'll say is that this team has allowed me and my entire staff to coach when we call timeouts. We draw up stuff that we've never done before, but we try to do some unusual things at times and they've bought into all of it. We ran just a straight line and I told those three just to step forward as hard as you can and Angel was going to curl off of it. Angel just curled right off and Patrika made a great pass and it's a three. It's a big time shot. It's not coaching, basketball players make plays and if you don't have players, you can't make plays. Tonight we stepped up and the entire team played well."
(on the time out before the end of the half)
"As soon as we call a timeout, I'm thinking `what can we run to get a quick shot.' You can't really worry about it. When we called that timeout with seven seconds left on the shot clock and we throw back to the inbounder and there's three on the shot clock. She throws it back to Patrika who has to make an incredible shot at the end of the half. What concerned me - and I told Laura Terry - she can't pass up an open shot. Her problem was she didn't know how much time was on the shot clock. For us that's unacceptable. She's a freshman, but she's played enough. You have to be accountable when you're on the floor. You've got to know time and score. You've got to know who's guarding you. You've got to know who's hot and at times tonight we didn't do a very good job at that. At the end we came up with some big stops. Finally it was nice to score more than our opponents."
