Louisville, Ky. - Brandie Radde was on fire from the perimeter, and Chauntise Wright did all the right things in the paint to lead the Louisville women's basketball team past Cincinnati 69-37.
Radde connected on a career-high five 3-point attempts and finished with a game-high 15 points. Wright controlled the post grabbing four rebounds and muscling her way to 11 points, all coming in the first half. While Angel McCoughtry finished with 14 points in just 24 minutes of play.
Turnovers plagued the visiting Bearcats throughout the game. In the first half they had more turnovers (15) than points (14), as Louisville led by 21 at the break. Cincinnati's 24 percent, 6-of-25 shooting from the field was also no match for Louisville's 14-of-27, 51.9 percent effort in the opening 20 minutes.
Louisville administered a trapping full-court press to obtain their early separation. Cincinnati's guards couldn't overcome the pressure, resulting in a multitude of steals by the Cardinal's long-armed duo of McCoughtry and Candyce Bingham.
The Bearcats never led in the contest, and for most of the second half, the Cardinals played reserves to rest the starters.
Even with the lopsided score, the Bearcats hustled their way to nearly identical marks in two statistical categories. Louisville captured a 33-27 rebound advantage, and came up with just one more steal (7-6) than the Bearcats. The glaring difference came in assists as Louisville found a 20-6 advantage.
Louisville finished the game shooting 58.7 percent from the field, while holding Cincinnati to 30.2 percent. The Bearcats hit only 1of 19 three-point attempts, for a 5.3 percent mark. The Cardinals hit an amazing 63.6 percent of its three-point attempts, connecting on 7 of 11 shots.
Louisville will be back in action this Sunday, January 20th as they travel to No. 5 Rutgers. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 2:00 p.m.
